Artist in Residence

ACA and The Presidium Group are launching an Artist in Residency pilot program. The selected artist will become the Artist in Residence at one of two East Riverside apartment communities, Element / Solaris, for one year. During the residency, the artist's accommodations will consist of a large two bedroom live/work space at a deeply subsidized sliding scale rental rate.
In exchange, the artist in residence will design their community engagement around their artistic discipline and skill set. The residency could include teaching art classes, collaborating on work with fellow community members, documentary work, and/or creating something permanent for the community.

Element Austin is an artists' haven located along the East Riverside corridor. Amenities include a large, shady outdoor oasis, 2 pools with grilling stations, 24-hour fitness center, computer stations and a leash free dog park. Home interiors feature hard flooring through-out, granite counter tops, black appliances, modern fixtures, supplied Euro washer/dryers and all are prewired for Google Fiber. Our Artist in Residence options are both 2 bedroom, 2 bath units, one featuring a roommate floorplan and the other a master/guest floorplan.

All finalists must be ACA Members and will be subject to a background check.

The selected Artist in Residence will be expected to participate in occasional public events and media coverage of the program.

The application consists of general information and broad questions. It is only the initial step to choose candidates for a series of in-person, in-depth conversations to determine which applying artist is the best fit for the residency.

ACA is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
